Hanging Solar Lamps
I need help selecting plants and lighting for my covered atrium in Lompoc, California 93436?
I own a condo with a covered atrium in Lompoc, California 93436. I want to plant ferns and other shade loving plants in this atrium to make it VERY lush. The atrium is covered on all sides except to the south. No direct sunlight reaches the planting area, except for a skylight that allows some sunlight to fall in the planting area. I need advice on the following questions: 1.) Which plants, preferably ferns and other shade loving tropicals, would you suggest to be planted in this atrium. 2.) I'm considering buying 2 Sun System VII solar lamps to be mounted high in the atrium to provide the missing sunlight. What is your opinion of this idea? 3.) I'm considering adding Boston Ferns hanging in this area. Do you think there is a better hanging fern or other plant that would work in this area? 4.) Any other advice on this subject, no matter how trivial, or simple, or obvious it may seem to you, would be greatly appreciated by me. Thank you!
Boston ferns won't work well. They need lots of humidity.
Look for some 'rabbit foot' ferns. And maybe some Bromiliads and orchids too.
Its so hard to suggest plants. Go to a big nursery and browse. See if you can get some sale plants at a home center.
And do some trailing fushias. Fushias are great in the shade and add lots of color.

Choosing The Right Solar Patio Lights
There is enough said on the effectiveness and monetary value of solar powered lights. However, in order for you to make the best use of solar patio lights you need to make some intelligent choices. Here is how you can do that.
The right placement of these lights is what will give you the best use of them. Use patio and decking lights in those portions of your home where it is otherwise difficult to route power.
